Thunder

I forgot to write about Thunder last weekend. Time goes by so fast that it seems like that was a lifetime ago! Jen and Shan came down as they always do to celebrate my birthday. We always have such a good time. While I enjoy Derby, I always enjoy Thunder almost just as much. It was a beautiful day with friends and family. It is so nice to have the opportunity to spend the day at the ballpark as well. It is definitely the icing on the cake. After the fireworks, as usual, we came home and immediately went to bed. We alwatys have the intention of going out and continuing the celebration but are always pooped with the day's festivities.

I am so lucky to have my posse and family make my birthday such an event. I can't wait until they come in again next weekend for Derby.

New position

I was offered a different grade for next year.I was really hoping for an opportunity to move to upper elementary but was not sure how quickly that it would happen. I am very excited about fifth grade, but it's a big move from being in the 1st. I know that I will genuinely enjoy having older kids because I get an opportunity to teach more writing and more of the content areas that I so love to teach. It was really hard to fit social studies and science into the cirriculum in first. I will miss the hugs the most though. First graders are huggers for sure! Oh well, I will get the sweetest class ever again in fifth in a couple of years!

I couldn't sleep the other night though....... there is a lot to think about and a lot of stuff to have to prepare over the summer. Thank goodness I am at such a supportive school!

Jack and Natalie

I had the kids over last night. They are such a joy to be around. Jack never shuts up. Natalie is becoming so smart and such a good reader. We had a good time. Took them out for Mexican and then went for ice cream. We then came home and read books for over an hour and then played Win, Lose, or Draw. They love that game. This summer is definitely gonna be a blast. Last summer went too quickly, with all of the swimming and fun that we had throughout the day. I hope I have as much time to spend with them this summer. It really made moving back home the most worthwhile. There is just not enough time in the school year to spend some of the quality time that I am able to offer in the summer. Jack is really coming into his own. Perhaps I will be able to teach him backflips off Heath's pool this summer? Only the cool stuff that only an aunt gets to teach, right?

Posting More, keeping in touch?

I am really making an effort to post some more because I am getting worse and worse at keeping in touch. I went to my old high school for their annual school musical. They built a new auditorium and dad got us tickets to go. It was somewhat surreal to go & see some old people that I had not seen since graduating. I did not even go to my 10 year reunion (had a boyfriend at the time & we went out of town).
Anyway, there were people there that I knew in older classes that already had kids that went to my hiigh school......too weird. Also, a friend from my class has three kids and I was not even aware. If that was not worse, I found out an even better friend is now a mommy too. This just reinforces the fact that I need to post more. Enough of me trying to committ to keeping in touch; the days just go by too fast. Instead, I am going to take baby steps and at least try to keep this thing updated so that I am at least making an effort.

End of the year

The end of the year has finally arrived and there are a lot of loose ends to tie up. I am already starting to get ready because I know that there is not nearly enough time the last week of school. May is just a crazy month. Besides, I have stuff going on every weekend in May, so there won't be any extra time on the weekends. I don't know how I will actually get through the month but there is a nice summer break as the end in sight & I got it all done somehow last year. I am hoping that I am up to the challenge without over-extending myself. I guess that we will see!

Drama Club

I am excited about being asked to co-lead the school musical. It is soooo much fun. I always was involved in theatre throughout school & whenever I had a chance to be a "thespian" (hee hee) I jumped at the chance. This year we are doing a lesser known musical due to finacial constraints but it doesn't matter because it is just going to be so cute. There is a little ham in my classs that holds a lot of promise in future shows because she is just so talented in things like that. She will be a force to be reckoned with in later years, & she's only in first grade right now!

Anyway, this is what is taking up most of my time these last couple of weeks. Our dress rehearsals are this week so it will be a busy week of getting everything in order for our performance in less than 2 weeks. But the show must go on!!!! I will post pics when I get them.

Birthday

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. ~Chili Davis

Had a good birthday. Every year I have a birthday it reminds me of how unthoughtful I am though. I had about 10 phone calls and several cards to wish me a good day, & they weren't just because of Casey either. I always get that many calls! I am so bad about other people's birthdays. I even forgot one of my closest co workers. I say every year that I am going to get better, but to no avail. I promise that this is gonna be the year though! I am going to make much more of an effort to remeber. It's so nice when people rememeber your special day.

Went out to eat with mom's side the night before my b-day. Sat outside, much to my family's dismay. Oh well, I got to be pretty princess today on my special day.....hee hee. It was gorgeous outside & I love to eat outside. Mom gave me money for clothes but prefaced it that I could not buy "anything black." She is so silly. Heathy gave me a shower set (curtain, carpet, towels, the whole nine) She knows what a bathroom whore that I am & reinforced my addiction for having various shower sets.
Then on my birthday it rained. Dad & Patsy took me to a fancy restaurant. Great food, but even better deserts. Note to self: do not order salmon with wasabi root on top. I accidentally took a huge bite of wasabi & it burned my nostrils.

Casey

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. ~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

So a lot has happened since I posted last. I haven't had the time to get on this thing since Spring Break. Things are going way too fast and I am just hoping to get through the month of May successfully. I guess that being busy is a good thing though because my wonderful dog has passed. My casey bear went to heaven the night before Easter. The lymphoma took it's course and she suffered a stroke. When I had run an errand, I came back & she couldn't walk. I knew that it was time to put her down & so I called mom for help. God took over from there I guess, probably because he knew that I didn't want to actually put her down. Because there is no place open on weekends, the only appointment that was availble was at 10 at night. While waiting in the car with mom & I she passed. I was so happy that she dies in my care and that it just happened naturally.

She was such a cool dog with such an amazing past. She took a good run at it though. She was 11. Brittany Spaniels rock. Everyone has been super cool. My parents are kept me busy so I wasn't home a lot. It's still hard not to hear her pitter patters on my harwood floors & Luva misses her as well.....sucks.
