Memorial Day weekend

I layed low this weekend. I was soooo pooped from the last week of school festivities. On Field Day, it was the first really hot day. I was pooped & never really recovered from it until this weekend. Friday I celebrated with my sister over a couple of well-deserved brews. Saturday, I was a slug & spent the better half of the day nursing the hangover that was caused from not eating before I went out. Sunday I went over to dads for a cookout. Yesterday I spent my money from doing drama club & spent it on 2 new bathing suits, tennishoes, 4 pairs of flip flops and a couple of t-shirts. I now think that most of my summer wardobe is complete. Then, I went over to Heather's for a swim. Mom bought a smoothie machine. I am wondering how the pioneers swam without one of these wonderful machines at their disposal. We will definitely get some use out of that WalMart bargain.
Heather, mom & I then vowed to start our summer healthy living program and established the rules for it. This protein enriched diet should work out just fine for my 30 lb summer goal. Can only drink once a week & I am trying to cut out the diet sodas as well. This is the summer that I am gonna do it. Today is my first day back at the gym in a long time. I am stoked!

imovies

Ok, my latest obsession is imovies. I made one for my class & it turned out too cute. I am currently trying to figure out if it is possible to put it on my blog but I am doubting it. More to come......

Jen's Graduation

When I go to mom's later today, I will fill this blog up with a bunch of pics that I took from Jen's party. I am so glad that she graduated. I went through an 18 month program, she had to go through a 3 year one. Poor dear. Oh well, it's a good thing because now she is officially a therapist. Not that she was bad when she was my unofficial therapist. I just like that she has some credentails now....hee hee.

I think everyone should have a best friend that is a therapist. It is quite economical for basketcases like myself. I like her turn in thought though. As a social worker she was more about fixing things with problem-solving techniques. Sometimes I didn't like her suggestions for techniques. However, now, she is looking at it from a much more cognitive perspective & I like that.

5th Grade Camp

So I went to 5th grade camp this year. It was a blast. I can't wait to go to 5th grade next year. I basically got paid to hike. Woohoo! We went to a place in Martinsville ran by IU students. The kids seemed to learn a lot. They stick with a theme all three days & this year's theme was the water cycle. I actually learned a lot myself. Did you know that if you put wintergreen certs in your mouth (only wintergreen for some reason) that the friction actually causes your mouth to spark? I cannot wait to demonstrate this to friends at my next social gathering, should be for a nice party trick. Anyway, that's one of the sidetrips that we learned on a night hike.
Additionally, it wouldn't be a field trip without breaking in the new teacher. I can enthusiastically say that I was properly broke in with a practical joke by the staff.
I can't wait to break in the next new person next year.....hee hee

Down in the Dumps

Th spring musical turned out so good. I was so proud of the kids. I mean I know that "Down in the Dumps" is no Broadway musical or anything, but I tried to pretend it was. Many friends know my affection for a good musical. After all, I doi enjoy a good show tune. Most importantly, the kids seemed to have a good time, despite my constant requests for them to "show feeling" or porperly use their "jazz hands". I can't wait until another masterpiece next year. I still think we should have took it on the road though....hee hee

Derby, I can't quit you

I guess I will start the update with the 1st weekend in May to catch up. It is always such a good weekend and the weather was phenomenal. It was truly a wild weekend, with new guests coming down to boot. We stayed at Heather's place so we would have more room. Needless to say one of the best quotes of the weekend was Brokeback Mountain quote (a movie which none of us had seen mind you). "I can't quit you" has a totally new connotation to it. Whether it was beer, (can't quit it) friends going off to the port of pots (Hurry back, I can't quit you).....yada, yada, yada---you get the picture.

It seems that fun was had by all, which was important to me because it's really the only time of the year that I am forced to play hostess (I like when other people have to worry if others are having fun instead of me doing it myself)
I know when I have had too much fun over the weekend when I go back to work the following Monday. "Miss Hock how did you lose your voice? Miss Hock are you tired? Your eyes look weird"(water retention )
Ahh.....out of the mouths of babes.

May

This month has been crazy but I will try to give a brief synopsis within the next couple of blogs. I don't know what it is about May but it seems more jam packed the last couple of years than even the holidays. I guess that that is one of the things about being in teaching now. Just as Decemeber is the time of year to wrap things up for the year, May is the same thing for wrapping up of the school year. My hope, as always, is to really make this blog as stupendous as possible this summer. Definitely more of a journal vs a cool blog due to time constraints. But now that I have a little more time over the summer........
